Can the scientific method be used to tell if something comes from the mind? Are you still a scientist if you can rationally, logically, and scientifically determine the difference between a designed system (product of a mind) and one that happens by chance (forces of nature, energy, time)?
The answer is YES! You are a gifted, honored, promoted, and published SCIENTIST if you use intelligent design thinking in all these fields and more. Intelligent design (ID) doesn't mean that you are saying that God did it. ID is about finding scientific methods to discern the acts of a mind versus the products of natural causes. This list might help you see how it is used in many areas of science including in chemistry and biology.
SCIENCE and SCIENTISTS study this difference all the time in these areas:
Archeology. Is it a rock (natural formation) or a tool (product of a mind)?
Crime Scenes (CSI). Was it an accident (natural consequence) or murder (sick mind, but still a mind)?
SETI. Did we find random, natural noise in space or a signal from distant intelligence?
Forensic Chemistry: Flour (natural product) or cocaine (chemical produce in lab)?
Environmental Science: Natural accident or a failure to meet codes?
Climate Science: Natural pattern or human contribution to climate change?
Anthropology: Are humans major or minor agents to geological and geomorphological change?
Pathology: Are you sick from a natural occurrence, or did the doctor leave a tool, sponge, or something inside of you?
Epidemiology: Was the virus a natural consequence of animal evolution or did someone leak it from a lab?
Politics: Did the protest outside the nation’s capital form naturally or was it a coordinated mob/insurrection?
Insurance: “Act of God” (i.e. natural causes) or is it your fault (your mind)?
Agriculture: Natural species form from random genetic mixing or genetically modified organism created by humans?
Teaching: An honest mistake or intentional cheating?
Parenting: Accident by the dog or earthquake or did the kids do it?
Origin of Life: Oops. Design thinking is not allowed to be science.
If you have other examples in science or life where we are allowed to look for acts of mind (i.e. intelligence), please let us know!
